Volunteer Self Assessment

Each agency or organization has a unique set of skills and time commitments required of their volunteers. The following are a list of questions to help you decide if the American Red Cross, Penn Jersey Region is an appropriate place for you. This self-assessment is for you planning purpose/decision making alone. Be completely honest. Discuss your decision with the important people in your life. Remember that volunteering is a commitment. It is important to find the right place to make that commitment.

Often people with good intentions are just too busy to volunteer. Too often volunteers will have great intentions but are unable to follow throught with their commitment. Each volunteer at a bloodmobile is critical to blood collection and donor service. Shifts can be scheduled for as many as 7 hours.
 
Do you have room in your life for another commitment?


 
The American Red Cross is seeking volunteer who are responsible and reliable. Many assignments will vary in where they are located and require that you provide your own transporation.
 
Are you able to accomodate this commitment?

 
There will be training required before you can become an American Red Cross volunteer. We require that each volunteer works at least once a month in order to keep the training current.
 
Are you willing to make that commitment?

 
Volunteering for the American Red Cross involves working with people of different ages, sexes,socioeconomic, cultural, racial, ethnic, religious and educational backgrounds.
 
Are you comfortable with people who are different than yourself?

 
Typically, the individuals who have been and continue to be successful American Red Cross volunteers possess certain skills/characteristics.
