Winning Video From Collingswood High School

“Locally, the American Red Cross needs to encourage more youth in our communities to donate blood. One way we thought we could accomplish this was to create a high school video contest, where students running blood drives could come up with creative ways to promote blood donation to their peers, said Lea Stanley, Marketing and Communications Director. The high school students in our region are well educated and extremely creative and based on the submissions we received, choosing one winner was difficult because they were all terrific.”

The goal of the video is to promote blood donation as a safe, easy way to make a difference in the community. Submission requirements included, but were not limited to: originality and enthusiasm, positive branding and positive promotion of blood donation. Collingswood’s video hit on all the crucial requirements and also added their own creativity and recruitment style into the piece. Stanley further comments that “Collingswood’s blood donor recruitment video will be mass produced and used by local American Red Cross account managers to help them show other high schools within southeastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey how to run fun and successful blood drives.”

High School students play an important role in keeping the blood supply stable. High Schools in this area will collect more than 13 percent of all blood donations made locally this year.

Most healthy people who are at least 17 years old and weigh 110 pounds or more are eligible to donate every 56 days. Donors can give blood at any one of nearly 200 bloodmobiles sponsored by business and community groups in southeastern Pennsylvania and in New Jersey weekly, or at one of nine community donor centers.
