The American Red Cross Penn-Jersey Blood Services Region held a large blood drive with the NHL’s New Jersey Devils on Saturday April 5th. The drive was held in the Prudential Center, the Devil’s new home in Newark, and was the first blood drive hosted by the three-time Stanley Cup champion hockey team.
Donors were recruited primarily through in-game announcements and advertisements on the Devil’s website. The response was phenomenal. Over 1000 enthusiastic fans signed up for the drive, filling the appointment schedule a full two weeks before the event.
The drive itself was a complete success, netting 762 productive units with 81 double red cell procedures. 639 participants were first time donors, adding not only much needed blood to the local supply but new blood donors to the ranks of life savers as well. As a special thank you, all presenting donors received a New Jersey Devils replica jersey and special treats in the post-donation refreshment area. |
