file icon Join Red Phanatic and American Red Cross at Phillies Blood Drive

The Phillies and the American Red Cross are teaming up during "Paint the Town Red" Week to help save lives.  The blood drive is being held on Wednesday, March 26th at Citizens Bank Park. 

All donors that day will receive special Phillies prizes. Plus, appearances will be made throughout the day by the Red Phanatic, Buddy the Blood Drop and Phillies Ballgirls. Media celebrities are also scheduled to participate, as well as Phillies employees.

March is American Red Cross Month, which annually highlights the services the agency provides to help people prevent, prepare and respond to emergencies of various types. A blood shortage in our area is an extreme emergency, once that can easily be prevented. Blood donors can help ensure that emergencies don’t become tragedies.

A blood drive is being held on Thursday, February 28, 2008 in honor of 3 year-old Jared Kerr of Cape May County, NJ. The blood drive is being held by Jared’s grandmother, Betteann Kerr, and the Dennis Township Primary School located on Hagan Road in Cape May Court House, NJ. The drive runs from 11 AM to 5:30 PM. February is Black History month, a perfect time to make an appointment to give blood in support of the thousands of people across the country suffering from sickle cell disease. On Friday, February 29th, the American Red Cross Blood Services will host a special blood drive inviting friends and family of Red Cross employees and the general public to donate blood for sickle cell patients.

file icon The Red Cross Challenges Blood Drive Sponsors to Save Sickle Cell Patients

The American Red Cross is hosting a special dinner to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of its Cooperative Sickle Cell Blood Donor Program on Tuesday September 25th 6:00 pm to 9:00pm at the African American Museum, located at 701 Arch St, Philadelphia PA, 19106. The American Red Cross has received thousands of blood donations since the beginning of the Program, helping to save Sickle Cell patients in the New Jersey and Southeastern Pennsylvania regions.


file icon American Red Cross Issues Blood Supply Alert

The American Red Cross Penn-Jersey Region is issuing a blood supply alert for New Jersey and five counties in southeastern Pennsylvania. All blood types are needed; however there is a critical need for Type O and Type B blood. Brigid O’Neill-LaGier, Chief Executive Officer of the Penn-Jersey Region, is appealing to people in the community to donate blood. “The blood supply is a community resource; a resource that solely relies on volunteer donors in communities across the country. Locally, we are at risk of not being able to provide enough blood of certain types needed to support patient care.”

file icon Wawa Supports the American Red Cross and Recognizes the Need for Blood Donations

Wawa is partnering with the American Red Cross Blood Services, Penn-Jersey Region this summer to promote the need for blood by launching a special in-store promotion. Beginning July 14, 2007 all WaWa stores located in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia will have Red Cross branded coffee clutches to promote and encourage people to donate blood. (A coffee clutch is the corrugated cardboard sleeve that is used in conjunction with WaWa’s coffee cups.)


file icon NFL Champion Sponsors Local American Red Cross Blood Drive

Current starting Defensive Tackle for the Indiana Colts, and Philadelphia Native Raheem Brock will be sponsoring a blood drive as well as signing autographs for presenting blood donors July 14th, 2007 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Presenting donors will automatically be entered into a raffle to receive a signed Colts NFL helmet and two winners will receive an official signed NFL football. The drive is being held at Musser Blood Center located at 700 Spring Garden Street in Philadelphia PA. Appointments are necessary.

The American Red Cross Blood Services, Penn-Jersey Region has launched a complete re-design of their web site- www.pleasegiveblood.org in order to attract new blood donors and better serve local blood donors, blood drive sponsors and volunteers. To celebrate the new look, ten $100 Visa gift cards will be given away for people who visit the website June 18 through July 18, 2007.


file icon Donate Blood and Win $3500 in Free Gas for One Year

In an effort to boost blood collections through the summer, a special promotion will launch at ALL American Red Cross blood collection sites in southeastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey beginning Friday, May 25, 2007 and concluding on September 16, 2007. Donors who come to a Red Cross blood drive or donor center will qualify to be entered into two (2) grand prize drawings with a chance to win $3,500 worth of gas for one year. That’s $7,000 worth of free gas up for grabs! In addition, the Red Cross wants to thank people who donate blood on a daily basis and will be offering a chance to win a daily $25 gas card that will be awarded each day of the campaign.

The American Red Cross Blood Services, Penn-Jersey Region is proud to announce that Phoenixville High School in Phoenixville, PA is the winner of the American Red Cross Blood Services, Penn-Jersey Region and Clear Channel Q 102 Holiday Heroes campaign for the winter of 2006. As the winning school, Phoenixville High School will now have a school dance hosted by Q102. The American Red Cross is thankful to work with Phoenixville high school to run blood drives.

Stratford New Jersey resident, Dorothy Richardson, a Education Specialist in the Collections Department at the American Red Cross Blood Services, Penn-Jersey Region, recently received the regional level Tiffany award for the Professional/Technical Service. The Tiffany is the top Professional/Technical award bestowed by the American Red Cross.


file icon Eileen Hovey, of Wynwood, PA is thankful that blood was available when she was in need!

Eileen Hovey of Pennsylvania will never forget the day she received a phone call that her son, Quinn, was struck by a car. Quinn was her youngest child, a six-year-old boy. Quinn was walking to his after school program with eleven other children and was hit by a driver that ran a red light. Quinn ’s body was thrown 65 feet in the air before landing on the cement street.

The American Red Cross recognizes January as National Blood Donor Month. During this annual, month-long observance, the American Red Cross is encouraging healthy individuals to donate blood in January and to pledge to donate blood at least one more time during 2007. Typically January is a difficult month to collect blood donations due to holidays, busy travel schedules, inclement weather and illness. The American Red Cross Blood Services, Penn-Jersey Region, is thankful to have Temple University Health System (TUHS) hosting blood drives and recruiting blood donors in order to increase blood collections in our area. The American Red Cross and Temple University Health System are hosting a special awards ceremony recognizing the outstanding blood collection program at Temple. The ceremony will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, January 19, 2007 at the Cheltenham Friends Meeting House on the grounds of Jeanes Hospital.

76ers player Kyle Korver has joined the American Red Cross in promoting a massive “76ers Blood Drive” on Saturday, February 10, 2007, at the Wachovia Center. The winter season is a very difficult time for the American Red Cross to collect enough blood. With the ever-present threat of a winter storm, it is very important to keep our blood supply stable. Just one day of heavy snow or freezing rain could cause a blood shortage in the Delaware Valley. The American Red Cross is hoping to build up a supply of blood to help safeguard against a winter shortage.
